This piece and “Open Conversations” were both painted in July of 2022 right after Roe vs. Wade was reexamined and overturned by the US Supreme Court. It was a time of sorrow, but also a time of hope and connection to other women. There is darkness, but also a brightness. Women were showing up for other women and telling their stories. Doctors were risking their careers and lives (some were given jail time) to help. It forced me to learn about a freedom of choice which I had taken for granted. Both pieces for me speak to a light of hope and a desire for liberation.
